Chairperson - Accounting

The Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Accounting. The Anderson School of Management is home to approximately 3,000 students, 58 full-time faculty and 42 staff. The School is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. The Accounting department holds separate AACSB accreditation. The School offers BBA and MBA degrees in multiple tracks, an Executive MBA, a MS in Cybersecurity and Business Analytics, and a MS in Project Management. Programs are offered in multiple modalities including face-to-face, online, hybrid, and accelerated.

The Accounting Department is a collegial and intellectually vibrant group of faculty and offers an AACSB Accounting accredited BBA degree, and Master of Accounting. The current department faculty is comprised of two Full Professors, three Associate Professors, five Assistant Professors, and four full time Lecturers. Departmental resources include dedicated monetary and research resources to support academic excellence.

The Department Chair of Accounting plays a critical role in the academic life of the School and is responsible for carrying out the School's vision and mission as they relate specifically to research, teaching, learning, and student success in accounting. Reporting to the Dean, the Department Chair is responsible for creating an environment conducive to research excellence, collegiality, as well as developing and implementing strategies that support institutional goals and aspirations. The Department Chair is highly engaged with faculty, staff, senior leadership and multiple other internal and external stakeholders. The Department Chair is responsible for the following specific outcomes: 1) Maintenance of AACSB Accounting accreditation including curriculum management, 2) Providing academic leadership and mentoring faculty, 3) Expansion and continuous improvement of high-quality research programs that address accounting and business community needs. The Department Chair is also expected to participate in donor engagement.

Candidates with established records of accomplishment and reputation in Accounting are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a strong record of publications in high quality journals defined as A and A* in the ABDC list. The successful candidate will also have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education; continue to pursue individual research; support the advancement of the faculty in the Department of Accounting as well as in the Anderson School of Management overall; and take advantage of UNM's strong ties with the business community to enhance the Department's reputation and visibility.
