The Opportunity

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center seeks a distinguished academic pediatric leader in Neonatology to provide strategic and operational leadership to the Division of Neonatology which includes NICU sites throughout the healthcare system.

The Director reports directly to the Chair, Pediatrics and is accountable for clinical oversight, evaluation and ensuring the demonstration of the highest quality outcomes and delivery of care. The Director is responsible for the ongoing coordination between the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the CSMC Newborn/Mother-Baby Unit, affiliated NICUs throughout the system, Academic and Education Programs, including highest quality research programs, clinical practice, human resource management, fiscal accountability, productivity, and regulatory compliance.

The Ideal Candidate

Successful candidates for this position must demonstrate the ability to lead a diverse group, work with the hospital and academic department partners using a collaborative approach, mentor junior faculty and have business skills, including financial budgeting and resource management. Other qualities include a commitment to excellence in patient care, implementation of innovative patient care programs, experience with strategic program growth and evidence of academic scholarly work.

Education/Certifications
  • Medical Degree (or equivalent) from an accredited medical school
  • Board Certification or Board Eligible in Pediatrics and Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine
  • Ability to obtain an unrestricted California license as Physician
  • Eligible for appointment to the appropriate academic rank in the CSMC Professorial Series

The Division of Neonatology

Neonatology is the largest division in the Department of Pediatrics at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and it comprised of the following five areas: NICU Unit (45 beds), Newborn/Mother Baby Unit, Academic Endeavors, Educational Programs and the CSHS Affiliate NICU's currently located in Tarzana, Huntington, and Torrance.

The Cedars-Sinai NICU is a world class, Level IV pediatric trauma center. Their NICU is one of the largest in Southern California and it is unmatched in the United States for its state-of-the-art design and technology treating approximately 800 – 900 newborns per year with last year treating a record 1200 newborns. Cedars-Sinai is also one of the biggest labor & delivery facilities in the country averaging between 6500 – 7000 births annually.

The Division currently includes 15 full-time faculty members (9 neonatologists at CSMC and 6 neonatologists at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center); however current recruitment is also underway for additional faculty for the division.

Within the Cedars-Sinai Health System, the neonatologists within the division provide neonatal intensive care for a total of 131 NICU beds (expanding to 142 beds).
