Job Description

The Penn Museum is looking for an Assistant Director, Virtual Programs (ADVP) to lead the Museum's robust virtual programs for K12 students and adults. This position works closely with other members of Learning and Community Engagement to deliver K-12 interactive virtual learning, Group Sales virtual learning, and Community Engagement programs with virtual components, enabling the Museum to have expansive reach to visitors beyond those that can visit the Museum in-person. Reporting to the Director of Learning and Community Engagement, the ADVP stays up to date on innovations, trends, software, and hardware for educational technology and virtual programs. The ADVP trains staff to facilitate virtual programs, maintains information about how to operate the software and equipment, and oversees ongoing maintenance or replacement. The ADVP markets all virtual programs to current and new audiences through close collaboration with the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC) and through ISTE and other online promotional mechanisms. They create regular promotions through CILC, maintain the Penn Museum's featured page with listings for K12, Group Sales, Community Engagement offerings. They communicate with CILC leadership to tie into larger initiatives to serve virtual and online communities. The ADVP works primarily with the Department's array of K-12 Interactive Virtual Learning (IVL) programs. Working with the School Visit Coordinator, they closely track and report on attendance and revenue figures using the Museum's booking system, the campus budgeting system, and departmental dashboards. They work closely with the Director of Learning and Community Engagement along with other related Learning and Community Engagement staff to plan digital initiatives.

Working with the School Visit Coordinator for bookings, they help to package programs, update the IVL web and marketing material, and lead technology checks. The ADVP is the lead educator for paid K-12 IVL programs and provides additional support for some grant-sponsored programs. They create and refine asynchronous and synchronous material to support Departmental initiatives, in consultation with the Associate Director of Interpretive Programs. Working with School Visit Manager and Global Education Manager, they organize virtual teacher professional developments. In collaboration with the Global Education Manager, the ADVP helps to train International Classroom educators for IVL programs. This person provides technical support/training for internal and external educators. As demand for these programs grows, the ADVP will oversee dedicated staff to support IVL teaching as the bookings require. As part of the overall Learning and Community Engagement Team, the ADVP assists with planning and technical support for Community Engagement Programs and Group Sales virtual programs. The ADVP moderates these programs as needed and helps to plan and troubleshoot, particularly for programs with large audiences of over 50 people. As part of the Department team, the ADVP may occasionally assist in the onsite instruction of K-12 and family education programs including classroom workshops and gallery activities.

Qualifications: Candidates for the Assistant Director, Virtual Programs should have a BA/BS in education, museum education, museum studies, history, archeology, anthropology, or related field. Master's degree preferred or three to five years of teaching experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants must have previous online teaching experience using at least one platform. They must have documented experience in teaching K12 students and have outstanding presentation skills. They must be committed to working with diverse audiences, K12 students and teachers, and students with special needs. Be organized, detail-oriented, and have excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are necessary, as the ADVP regularly interfaces with the public and Museum staff/faculty. Finally, demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Word, Outlook are necessary. Some evening and weekend work may occasionally be required. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
