The Department of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of thoracic surgery. Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree. They must also be certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or eligible for such certification.

Teaching responsibilities may include clinical and didactic instruction of medical students and residents.

Clinical responsibilities may include in- and out-patient care of thoracic surgery patients. Applicants should be capable of robotic surgery and feel comfortable with supporting, but not leading, pulmonary transplantation and benign esophageal disease management. Airway surgery abilities are encouraged as well.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include clinical and/or basic science research on topics in the field. Applicants should be highly focused on an academic research career, either bench research or clinical outcomes research. Milestones will include obtaining funding for creating a research program in the Division of Thoracic Surgery.

The successful candidate will be a member of Penn Medicine's Division of Thoracic Surgery and will practice primarily at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, with secondary duties at the Cpl. Michael J. Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center of Philadelphia. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in all aspects of general thoracic surgery and to those having completed a thoracic surgery fellowship.
