Job Description Summary
The Bushman lab is seeking a skilled bioinformatician to join our team. Ideally, the candidate will possess strong data processing skills preferably in the UNIX/Linux environment. This position will provide bioinformatics support to the PI, visiting scientists and research collaborators, manage biomedical data, construct data analysis pipelines, develop bioinformatics applications, and report research findings.
Job Description
Bioinformatician A -will focus on developing and implementing bioinformatic methods for analysis of large sequence-based data sets. Topics include analyzing the integration of new DNA into genomes, and structure and function of the human virome and microbiome. The Bioinformatician will interact with the PI, visiting scientists and research collaborators daily using a wide array of experimental designs; manage the laboratory information manager system (LIMs); troubleshoot any problems that may occur during a study, including bug fixes, database maintenance, and custom statistical analysis; and carry out analysis of deep sequencing data to characterize genome dynamics. The bioinformatician will also keep the PI and collaborators appraised of project progress, and will plan and carry out new bioinformatic analysis and statistical methods development. The successful applicant will prepare written reports for publication and grant submission.
Bioinformatician B - Same duties as above - and in addition work independently to provide bioinformatics support to faculty and staff, perform complex computational and statistical methods development, and supervise other programmers. Present results at national meetings regarding new tools and findings.
Qualifications:
Bioinformatician A: Bachelor's Degree and minimum 3 years of experience in a scientific or engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Completed coursework in bioinformatics, biology, computer science, and statistics. Expertise in coding and biology/bioinformatics required. Additional experience in statistical analysis, programming in R, parallel/distributed computing, and database management would be helpful.
Bioinformatician B: Master's Degree and 3 - 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. PhD Degree preferred. Experience in a Bioinformatics A position preferred, with added education and experience in coding and bioinformatic applications. experience in statistical analysis, programming in R, parallel/distributed computing, and database management would be helpful.
Position contingent upon grant funding.
