Job Description Summary
The Central Sterilization Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire range of reprocessing services for the hospital and the inventory management for the surgery department. An extensive reprocessing skill set is required for success in this position.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee the operation and troubleshooting of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization equipment
  • Support all departments with reprocessing needs:
  • Clean, decontaminate, inspect, and assemble a high variety of complex surgical instruments and instrument sets including, but not limited to:
    • Rigid and flexible endoscopes
    • General surgery and orthopedic instruments
    • Delicate ophthalmic and renal instruments
    • Power equipment
  • Maintains compliance with quality assurance measures
  • Responsible for inventory management
    • Orthopedic implants
    • General surgery inventory
    • Placing stock/special orders
    • Annual year-end inventory
  • Enforce principles of infection control when indicated
  • Assist in establishing and updating standards of supplies and materials used in the area of responsibility. This includes sterile preparation, autoclaving, and operating room materials, preparing and submitting requisitions for inventory items, developing inventory standards, and maintaining stock at the established levels, identifying, and reprocessing sterile items approaching expiration on a monthly basis, and maintaining a list of items that need repair.
  • Prepare items for shipment to New Bolton Center for gas sterilization
  • Instruct OR staff and Harcum students in instrument reprocessing
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide information regarding best practices in sterile processing
  • Interact closely with the surgery supervisor and surgery section chief


Supervisor B
  • An Associate's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Central Processing Technician or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Possessing additional certifications (CER, CIS, CHL) will be considered toward higher level advancement
  • CRCST certification is preferred
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Windows based applications such as database, spreadsheet, and word processing
  • Ability to work well in a fast paced, busy environment, both independently and with a team
  • Ability to multi-task and complete assigned tasks
  • Strong time management, organization, and communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of methods of aseptic technique, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization
  • Extensive knowledge of operation and troubleshooting of all equipment used in reprocessing

Supervisor C: All of the above and a minimum of 3 years of experience.

Hours: Monday -Friday 10am-6pm

Working condition:

- Able to stand, be on your feet for long periods of time
