About the Opportunity

Winston-Salem State University seeks serious applicants for the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management Services who will serve as Chief Enrollment Officer. Reporting to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the AVC for Enrollment Management Services must provide strong leadership, strategic direction, and fiscal oversight for three units-Office of Admissions, Office of the Registrar, and the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. The AVC for Enrollment Management Services has principal responsibility for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic enrollment management plan focused on recruitment, admissions, retention, and alignment of financial support to students that is consistent with the university's strategic goals and direction. This position requires interaction and coordination with members of the Chancellor's Cabinet, the Provost's Senior Leadership team, the academic deans and academic department chairpersons, the University College, Student Affairs, and the Department of Athletics

The Associate Vice Chancellor will:
  • Lead Enrollment Management Services in the execution of university strategic planning objectives, including each unit articulating a mission statement and Program Level Outcomes, as well as assessing progress toward these outcomes on an annual basis.
  • Create and execute, including evaluation and analysis with campus stakeholders, a data-informed institutional Strategic Enrollment Management Plan that shapes strategic enrollment goals, including targets for diversity and academic profile that produces a diverse, intellectually stimulating campus community.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for the organization, including summer school operations, perform periodic cost and productivity analyses, and provide data-informed decisions for allocating staff and financial resources to achieve enrollment goals.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility and leadership for the strategic management of the financial assistance programs, while advancing the university's need for revenue growth and maintaining a commitment to helping students and families find ways to manage their investment In a WSSU education.
  • Develop and enhance valuable partnerships with external constituents to promote a culturally competent, culturally responsive, diverse, and inclusive campus environment.
  • As a member of a community of scholars and leaders at WSSU, the AVC must participate in university-wide and community-based committees, as well as in professional activities on local, regional, and national levels to serve as one of the primary "public faces" for WSSU, representing the institution enthusiastically, passionately, and eloquently.


Minimum Qualifications:
Education

A Master's degree in a related field or a similar/equivalent program from a regionally accredited college or university.

Experience

Five (5) years of experience in a senior administrative and leadership position in Enrollment Management Services areas (e.g., admissions, financial aid, registrar's office) at a four-year institution of higher education.

Other Demonstrated Competencies and Expertise

Experience in enterprise system software, enrollment management systems, and data-driven analyses of enrollment information for decision making.

Documented evidence of advocating for the unit with university leadership and establishing strategic connections across the university, as well as external to the university.

Demonstrated track record of successfully attracting and retaining qualified students to a four-year institution of higher education.

Demonstrated evidence working successfully with faculty and staff in divisions, units, and departments external to Enrollment Management Services.

An established record of setting priorities and allocating resources strategically and appropriately to achieve specific goals.

Evidence of providing responsive supervision of direct reports.

Demonstrated strong commitment to recruiting and retaining diverse staff within the unit while concurrently investing in their professional growth and development

Preferred Qualifications:

A doctorate or terminal degree in an appropriate discipline from regionally accredited institution.

Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.

Evidence of proficiency with various technological tools that impact student engagement, staff development, and business operations.

Experience as a leader with a collaborative and consultative style.

Evidence of leading and managing complex organizations in a high-demand, team-oriented environment with timelines and due dates.
