Job Description Summary
The IT Manager for Classroom Support is the direct supervisor of the team who serves as the primary technical resource to ensure that faculty, staff, and guests are able to successfully utilize installed and portable audio-visual equipment during classes, conferences, and special events. In addition to managerial duties, this position will provide front-line support if there is an equipment failure or when an end-user needs assistance. Provide multimedia production services for classes, lectures, meetings, special events and external production events. Work performed includes training of all staff on new classroom technology, production equipment, repairing broken equipment, working with outside vendors for repairs, coordinating and troubleshooting new installations, and coordinating multimedia equipment.

Job Description

The IT Manager for Classroom Support will lead Wharton Computing's Classroom Support team in daily operations and manage the support for Wharton Classes, both in-person and virtual. Wharton's educational technology environment consists of over 100 technology-enabled learning spaces, 50+ group study rooms, and 30+ conference rooms. The IT Manager for Classroom Support and their team will provide direct and supporting assistance to over 20,000 academic events and 15,000 special events annually across the Wharton complex. Additionally, the classroom support team provides training for faculty, staff, and students on instructional technology including installed AV equipment in the classrooms and virtual learning tools. The IT manager manages a staff of full-time employees as well as temporary staff and 3rd party resources contracted for large engagements and extra capacity. The IT Manager will set and manage a team schedule to support academic activities that typically occur on Wharton's campus from 7:00am - 7:00pm Monday through Saturday. They will be required to be on call, carry a school-provided cell phone, and occasionally be available for non-normal business hour support requests.

  • Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Experience with audio-visual systems, sound reinforcement, video recording, and data projection, and audio-visual setup is required.
  • Experience in managing a technical operations/audio visual team is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as on project teams, excellent interpersonal skills and strong customer service orientation for a wide variety of customers and colleagues, strong written and verbal communication skills, self-motivated and well-organized, ability to present technical materials clearly, ability to multi-task and work effectively within tight turnaround schedules, able to manage multiples projects/deadlines concurrently and to work effectively under pressure.
  • Early shift, Occasional weekend, and evening shifts; due to academic schedule, vacation may be limited or denied from mid-August through September
