The Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania invites qualified individuals to apply for a faculty position in Clinical Medical Oncology. This position will be in the Academic Clinician track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will have clinical responsibility for patient care and related teaching, including intern/resident training.

Academic Clinicians spend the majority of their effort in clinical service and clinical teaching endeavors. The position will focus on patient care, education of veterinary students, training of rotating interns and surgery residents, and supervision of veterinary nurses. Potential for collaborative research abounds, but advancement within this faculty track does not include a research requirement. Eighty per cent (80%) of the candidate's time will be devoted to clinical service in Medical Oncology within the small animal Medical Oncology service, with the remaining time dedicated to scholarly activity and administrative duties. In addition to working in a dynamic hospital setting with excellent support staff, the advantages of the position include an exciting intellectual environment with outstanding residents and faculty boarded in surgery, dentistry, critical care, anesthesiology, radiology, oncology, and internal medicine.

Adjacent to the veterinary hospital is three world-class biomedical hospitals and research centers that provide excellent opportunities for collaboration: The Abramson Cancer Center at the Perelman School of Medicine, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Wistar Institute, ( www.upenn.edu/life-at-penn ). Potential for collaborative research abounds, but advancement within this faculty track does not include a research requirement.

The Comprehensive Cancer Care Service at Penn consists of 4 board-certified medical oncologists (including positions in immuno-oncology and oncology clinical trials), 1 board-certified radiation oncologist, 2 board-certified surgeons (including a fellowship-trained surgical oncologist), 4-5 medical oncology residents, and 1 specialty intern in oncology clinical trials. The support staff includes 9 full-time nurses and technicians. Radiation is delivered by a VMAT-equipped linear accelerator with on-board CT and kV imaging.

Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital is Penn Vet's small animal facility, which houses board-certified faculty in virtually every specialty. Capabilities include interventional radiology, minimally-invasive surgery, hemodialysis, and plasmapheresis. Imaging modalities include MRI, CT, Doppler ultrasound, and fluoroscopy. Ryan Hospital is situated on Penn's vibrant main campus in Philadelphia, a beautiful historic city with an abundance of cultural resources including music, art, theatres, and fine dining ( www.upenn.edu/life-at-penn/philadelphia ). Philadelphia offers easy access to New York and Washington DC. Additionally, Wissahickon Valley Park, Valley Forge National Park, and many more are within minutes of the city for the nature enthusiast.
