Senior Associate Director for Internship Programs


Overview

 

 

The Senior Associate Director for Internship Programs oversees internship funding awarded through the Center for Career Development, and ensures that supporting infrastructures exist to enable students to reflect on and learn from their internship experiences. The person in this role works in conjunction with colleagues across the University to help build collaborative and coordinated internship policies and procedures, as appropriate. Additionally, the person in this role will work with faculty and departmental administrators who oversee Internship Milestone Credits, and create supporting materials and processes. The person in this role works directly with students, and creates programming to help students procure meaningful internships, prepare for their internships, and build on internship experiences, as well as helping to troubleshoot any challenges that arise during students’ internships. This is a three-year benefits eligible term position.

This inaugural role will require the ability to set and evolve a creative and compelling vision for the work, build effective relationships, navigate a decentralized internship environment, and thoughtfully assess ongoing planning for programs within their portfolio. The incumbent will need to execute on pieces of the programming and influence others to effectively support operational needs for the program. Serving as a member of the Center for Career Development senior leadership team, the person in this role will also contribute to the overall management of the Center.

 


Responsibilities

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Program Development and Management

• Provide strategic leadership for the Center for Career Development’s internship program, including creating departmental policies to manage internship funding, creating and supporting an educational infrastructure, providing students with relevant training, and curating reflection activities and final projects
• Manage funding application process, and convene funding selection committee
• Oversee and track program budget
• Serve as spokesperson for the internship funding initiative, and promote the program to various stakeholders
• Create reports and provide metrics to senior leadership
• Manage continuous assessment/improvement efforts to promote meaningful student learning and reflection
• Collaborate closely with Career Development’s senior associate director for student engagement to ensure continuity between internship reflection and other high impact programs within the department
• Write promotional and informational content related to internship funding and collaborate with communications team to share on social media and through newsletters
• Manage by influence to coordinate Career Development team members involved in the funding process
• Keep abreast of legal and regulatory issues related to internships, and ensure that appropriate processes are in place to mitigate risk
• Monitor international travel guidance and ensure that students conducting internships abroad are appropriately guided and prepared

 

 

Program Execution and Direct Student Contact
• Create and facilitate information sessions to encourage a wide range of students to apply for the program and grow program participation
• Meet individually with students to support them throughout the application process and their program participation
• Manage Canvas site to support student interns’ learning and reflection activities
• Manage fund awards tracking and all communication with students
• Ensure that students’ reflection activities are read and monitored throughout the summer
• Conceptualize and execute a fall event to celebrate student interns and maximize their learning through the experience
• Advise students both individually and by integrating opportunities into center communications to help them identify pathways for service-related careers

 

Additional Leadership and Relationship Management
• Establish and maintain relationships with a wide range of campus stakeholders
• Work with faculty partners to expand use of Internship Milestone Credit for internships
• Serve on and/or lead additional committees and task force groups relating to internships
• Serve as active member of the Center for Career Development senior team, providing overall leadership to the center


Qualifications

 

 

• Master's degree and 5+ years of related work experience

 

 

• Knowledge of best practices within student engagement/ career development / service learning and the ability to tailor, adapt and evolve such practices to a complex, fast-paced, and evolving program
• Proactive and thorough project management skills, and ability to effectively engage broad range of stakeholders and ensure timely and thorough internal communication
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage and build strong relationships with diverse audiences including senior stakeholders across the university and faculty members
• Exceptional organizational leadership and communication abilities, including excellent writing and public speaking skills
• A passion for advising undergraduate students and working within a student-focused and student-responsive environment
• Experience in working with and supporting underrepresented populations, and deep commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion goals
• Ability to establish, measure and report program data and learning outcomes
• Ability to track, monitor and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to show results; proficiency in developing appropriate graphs and data visualizations to demonstrate impact
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Google suite and either proficiency or willingness and ability to learn Handshake, Canvas, and university finance and reporting systems.
• Comfort with change, ambiguity, and risk in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
