As part of HR's Compensation team and reporting to the Executive Director of Compensation, the Senior Compensation Specialist will be responsible for the oversight, administration, implementation, and communication of the University compensation programs for Schools and Centers. Works

collaboratively with School and Center HR partners to develop compensation programs and practices that strategically address management issues. Provides consultation to managers and supervisors on job design, job classification, FLSA issues, and salary administration to ensure equitable and competitive pay practices. Responsible for ensuring compliance with University policies, practices, and procedures, and compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Supports Human Resources programs and services to fulfill the strategic plan of the University and Human Resource. Reports to the Executive Director of Compensation.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Conducts job evaluations to establish the appropriate classification based on the University s compensation system. Reviews staff positions and salaries to monitor internal equity and external competitiveness. Makes recommendations to managers on salary setting, new hires, promotions, job classifications and restructures.
  • Provides analyses and recommendations to management and School/Center HR partners regarding HR/Compensation policies and procedures; develops practices and programs that are consistent with University policies and procedures and comply with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Manages large scale projects and provides high-level summaries that may include compliance, cost, School/Center and University-wide impact, using advanced analytic and compensation skills. Completes salary surveys, FLSA audits /updates, new system implementations and other special projects.
  • Advises and consults with managers on job and organizational design, job classification, FLSA issues, and overall salary administration. Reviews requests for Independent Contractors and determines appropriate status. Monitors requests to ensure compliance.
  • Works with senior management and representatives from departments, centers and institutes to ensure compensation programs support and enhance ability to recruit, retain, recognize and provide professional development opportunities for employees.
  • In collaboration with HR/Compensation team coordinates the annual salary increase program; participates in the development and implementation of communications, guidelines, training, reports, and analyses.
  • The Senior Compensation Specialist will mentor and develop Compensation Specialists, as well as interact and advise HR partners regarding compensation issues.
  • Handles special projects to support new initiatives and compensation administration.
  • Develops and conducts training and presentations regarding policies and procedures, job design and classification, reclassification process, FLSA, salary management and modules.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Budgeted Pay Range:

$80K -- $99K commensurate with education and experience
