Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania Biotech Commons seeks an energetic Intern to participate as a full member of our Library team, receiving mentoring by our progressive and seasoned team of professional librarians, and launching your career as an information professional.

Job Description

The Biotech Commons is an integral part of the Penn Libraries and provides cutting-edge research services, resources, and technology for the University of Pennsylvania Health System; the Perelman School of Medicine, including Biomedical Graduate Studies; the School of Nursing; various masters programs; and the Department of Biology. This is a great opportunity for exposure to the workings of academic and specialized libraries.

  • Participate in the library's week-day reference rotation schedule by providing reference and consultation services to patrons (faculty, clinicians, staff and students) in-person, by phone and virtually (e-mail and chat).
  • Participate in the library's virtual weekend reference rotation, which can be done remotely.
  • Assist team of professional librarians with projects relating to:
    o Systematic Reviews of the literature
    o Mobile resources
    o Bioinformatics
    o Research impact assessments
    o Knowledge management and data visualization
    o Community health partnerships, programs, and outreach
    o New technologies and resources
    o Course-integrated instruction and library-sponsored workshops and presentations
    o Online tutorials and courseware
    o Research guides
  • Contribute to the library's social media accounts
  • Tell us your ideas for self-defined projects in your area(s) of interest!

    Flexible hours 10-20 hours per week.

    Qualifications

  • Current graduate student in ALA-accredited library or information science program or related discipline.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Service orientation.

  • Tech-savvy.

  • Experience or interest in searching health sciences databases.

  • Experience or interest in participating on research projects.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Excited to learn!
