Job Description Summary
The Director of Learning and Organizational Development is a strategic partner within Development Alumni Relations (DAR) Human Resources to drive organizational excellence and a learning culture of community, growth and development. This person will spearhead staff and organizational development and engagement efforts that support the emerging, evolving, and strategic talent management and employee lifecycle planning. They will work towards enabling DAR staff and managers to fully embrace the division's core values and their own professional growth and success. This role serves a multi-pronged goal to grow skills, support engagement and recognition of our staff, lead organizational development and change initiatives, and provide effective means of knowledge sharing. This position reports to the Senior Director of DAR Human Resources and is a trusted partner with DAR's leadership in aligning with the department's strategies and business needs and prioritizes integrating DEI thought leadership into all aspects of their work.

Job Description

This position reports to the Senior Director of DAR Human Resources and is a trusted partner with DAR's leadership in aligning with the department's business needs. With a bias towards being nimble, they will enable staff to perform at their greatest potential through innovative, contemporary and evidence-based programming and communications that translates into concrete actions and tangible outcomes.

The Director of Learning and Organizational Development (LOD) oversees and continually reviews and enhances a variety of synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences in collaboration with the Sr. Director of Human Resources, Core HR Talent Management staff, other University resources, CASE (Council on the Advancement and Support of Education) and the DAR Services Training and Technology team. They create and leverage internal and external networks to maximize knowledge sharing among peers and other subject matter experts, as well as stays current with emerging and best practices in staff, leader and organizational development and engagement landscapes.

Engagement and Wellbeing
  • Partners with DAR HR colleagues to create, deliver and continually reassess an onboarding framework and curriculum for all new DAR staff across Central and schools and centers.
  • Creates a strategic engagement plan and initiatives that includes ongoing programs and unique opportunities for staff connectedness, recognition, learning, wellness and celebration, that result in an effective, kind and respectful work environment where people can do their most vibrant work. While they are the lead in these initiatives, the workplan is shared between the HR and LOD staff and others in DAR as needed.
  • Integrates DEI thought leadership into all aspects of the work.
  • Tracks pulse of the organization by leading employee feedback, focus groups and interviews on organizational climate issues; analyzes data from surveys and leads staff engagement follow-up.


Staff Development and Retention
  • In consultation with the Sr. Director Human Resources, designs and leads formal and informal staff and supervisor trainings and development programs to grow organizational effectiveness based on the department's strategic initiatives and actively promotes professional development for all staff and supervisors. Leverages agile development when appropriate and incorporates contemporary learning theories and methodologies into program offerings using practical, hands on application.
  • Use learning metrics and analytics to measure the effectiveness of learning solutions and evaluate program offerings and support agile and systematic program improvement in alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Develop ad-hoc learning programs and tools to support departmental -wide initiatives.
  • Conducts needs analyses to determine learning needs based on projected competencies, career pathing, organizational changes and external factors for Workday Talent Management content building and management. This includes an emphasis on frontline fundraising learning strategies and programs.
  • Integrates Penn's Core HR's Talent Management staff and leadership programming, communication and nomination processes and tracks participants and career progression as part of DAR's overall Talent Management efforts.
  • Expand the teaching capacity and strength of DAR's ongoing development objectives by building a corps of effective internal trainers through skill building, feedback, and coaching.
  • Leverage Learning Management System (Workday) and appropriate delivery technologies to address specific learning needs in an agile work environment.


Organizational Development
  • Assess, design, develop, implement and evaluate innovative programs that help advance DAR's strategic plan and enhance the abilities of its dedicated team of staff.
  • Provide programs and services that enhance organizational performance and enable successful organizational change by increasing alignment between individual, team, and organizational capabilities, and manage the associated organizational change efforts.
  • Collaborate with others on the HR team and consult with internal DAR clients in the areas of strategic planning, team building, meeting design and facilitation, change management, coaching, and customized training.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 7 years related experience in learning and education required, organizational development experience desired. Proven track record of staff and leadership development program creation and implementation in a large organization. Preferably experience in synchronous and asynchronous learning environments. Demonstrated ability to train and present to various size staff groups and in formats of wide-ranging length and complexity. Fluent in utilizing change management principles. Bachelors degree required, additional education, training and/or certifications in related field desired.

Experience within a variety of positions, roles or responsibilities, ideally including front-line fundraising and direct solicitation.

Ability to bring creativity and energy to position, including being able to motivate and energize a team of professionals to achieve a desired action. Ability to establish strong, positive relationships and work with a variety of people in different positions at all levels of the organization.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written in addition to platform skills (in person and virtually). Must be poised, articulate and conduct oneself with the highest level of professionalism and service. Strong collaborator and willing to learn and use new concepts for maximum learning impact. Must be flexible and able to adapt to any changing condition smoothly and quickly.

Participate in Alumni Weekend and Homecoming, and be visible at DAR events representing HR as a partner in support of the organization's mission.
