The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal is based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Preference will be given to applicants with a proven track record in biomedical research, especially in optical spectroscopy and finite-element analysis. Experience in the following is highly desired: programming in Matlab, GEANT4/GAMO Monte Carlo, COMSOL FEM, medical imaging processing, photon transport in tissue, fiber optics and lasers, and optical instrumentation design. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Responsibilities may include in vivo Cherenkov imaging of patients undergoing radiation therapy, Monte Carlo simulation of transports of both ionizing radiation and the subsequent non-ionizing Cherenkov photons, 3D patient surface imaging and deformable registration of surface mesh to a template body mesh or CT, developing schemes for TSET treatment planning and/or quality assurance of IMRT treatment delivery, Monte Carlo modeling of tissue optical properties, and finally measurement of tissue optical properties.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to attend the CAMPEP PhD certificate program for certification in Medical Physics.
