Job Description Summary
The IT Manager D is a key senior position reporting to the IT Director, responsible for developing the short and long-term technology strategy for the undergraduate Fine Arts and Architecture Departments. They work closely with the Fine Arts and Architecture faculty and staff to manage the highly specialized and diversified technical needs of two departments serving hundreds of students in six state-of-the-art computer labs dedicated to digital video, digital photo, and 3D modeling. They make independent decisions - taking into account recommendations from and the needs of the Fine Arts and Undergraduate Architecture Faculty - regarding purchasing hardware and software, including conducting comprehensive research and reviewing industry trends, evaluating budgetary implications and working in collaboration with the IT Director. The IT Manager D also oversees and manages all of the technical projects, initiatives, and day-to-day computing activities in the 6 computer labs (5 MAC and 1 Windows) mentioned above, including deployment of new systems, hardware, software, and any new technologies. They set policies and procedures, technical standards and methods for IT use and purchasing in Addams Hall, and report to the Director of IT on information systems plans, projects, performance, and related matters. The IT Manager D works with the Sr Systems Administrator to maintain Addams Hall infrastructure, including hardware firewalls, hypervisors and virtual servers. They provide second tier support for issues, including tier 2 support for MacOS and Windows platforms. They are responsible for Mac device administration (currently using JAMF) including any higher-level support.They should be knowledgeable in Linux. They supervise 2 full-time and 1 part-time staff.

Job Description

  • Work closely with the IT Director and Fine Arts faculty and staff to develop the short and long-term technology strategy and strategic plans for the undergraduate Fine Arts and Architecture Departments, including conducting comprehensive research and reviewing industry trends, identifying new technologies and innovations, and evaluating financial implications and staff resources. Make decisions about purchasing new and retiring old hardware, software and new technologies. They manage JAMF and oversee the Apple DEP process.
  • Manage all IT projects for Undergraduate Fine Arts and Undergraduate Architecture, including deployment of new systems, hardware, software, and any new technologies in Addams Hall (including the 6 computer labs mentioned above). Deploy resources to support a diverse range of projects, monitor projects' progress, and ensure accountability. Supervise two full-time and one part-time staff.
  • Develop and implement, policies and procedures, technical standards and methods for the Fine Arts and Undergraduate Architecture departments in Addams Hall.
  • Work closely with the IT Director to develop and monitor the hardware and software budgets for the graduate and undergraduate Fine Arts and undergraduate Architecture departments, including making financial decisions regarding server hardware and configuration.
  • Provide Mac OS Administration (JAMF), Windows administration (DHCP and MDT support).
  • Provide Tier 2 technical support to other IT staff.
  • Participate on and lead (as appropriate) on-campus wide project teams, task forces and user-group meetings.

​Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 3 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; 5 - 7 years of experience preferred. They should be knowledgeable in Hypervisor; Mac Environments; Macintosh Hardware; Mac OS; Mac OS X Development; Microsoft Windows; OS Administration; Windows Platforms and Linux. They should have a minimum of 2-3 years people management experience.
