Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania Library Educational Technology and Learning Management (ETLM) unit seeks a dynamic and student-centered administrator to be the Education Commons Program Assistant. The program assistant will offer support during our evening and weekend hours (15 hrs,/week). The person in this role will assist our student workers while helping them problem solve and grow in the position. The person in this role will also offer administrative support around room reservations, program support, etc. The person in this position will also help inspire a community of student makers and designers at the University of Pennsylvania. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Learning Enrichment, the program assistant will play a key role in assisting our efforts in accessibility and learning. They will be involved in initiatives across ETLM. In addition to collaborating with areas across the library, the Program Assistant will have opportunities to connect with subject specialists, library liaisons, peers across campus, and peer institutions.

Job Description

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the operations of the Education Commons by coordinating student workers, administrative activities and procedures that ensures a safe, supportive environment for hands-on learning and innovation aligned with the mission and priorities of the Library
  • Proactively fosters community-building with student workers by modeling relationship building and encouraging collaborations among academic units, student groups and individual faculty, students, staff, and Librarians.
  • Assist in workshops and training, and consultation, and facilitate other challenge activities for undergraduates, graduate students and faculty engaged in making in a variety of academic disciplines.
  • Be able to learn and assist in consultations in technologies to students, faculty, and staff at Penn.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • BFA, BA, or BS required
  • Ability to think creatively, work independently and function effectively as part of a team. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with one or more of the following: game development, rapid prototyping (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Makey Makey), art and craft projects, electronics tinkering and creative technology (computer programming for creative applications, interactive media, robotics & design projects), 3D modeling, scanning, and printing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in team settings.
