Job Description Summary
This position's primary function is to facilitate, promote, and ensure good clinical practice in the conduct of all research protocols in the Department/Center. Independently manages different phases of complex clinical trials and mentors Coordinators and Research Assistants. Works with partnering institutions and creates multi-center budgets and manages expenses. Participates in study team meetings, disease site group meetings, and ongoing protocol training/compliance meetings. Supports in the monitoring of external sites and assists in the management of multisite trials. Adheres to all University and other regulatory guidelines.

Job Description

The Penn Urban Health Lab (UHL) Clinical Research Coordinator B is a unique opportunity to help develop and grow several efforts at Penn Medicine to dismantle structural and institutional racism through research and action. The Clinical Research Coordinator will work closely with Project Managers, UHL Faculty Director, and Opportunity for Health Lab Director on a broad range of neighborhood-based initiatives to advance the science of urban health including:
  • An NIH funded randomized controlled trial designed to improve health among Black Philadelphians through neighborhood vacant lot cleaning, abandoned house remediation, tree planting, trash pickup, tax preparation, financial counseling, micro grants, and maximizing public benefits.
  • Various other projects within the Urban Health Lab and Opportunity for Health Lab

Duties for a Clinical Research Coordinator B will include a variety of research and administrative tasks, such as:
  • Assist project managers with training and overseeing a team of 4 Community Engagement and Research coordinators who will be responsible for participant recruitment in the community and conducting study activities.
  • Helping to troubleshoot issues and refine processes related to recruitment and community engagement
  • Organizing and maintaining collected participant research data.
  • Monitoring study progress and timelines; helping to ensure study milestones and targets are met
  • Participating in research meetings and carrying out routine correspondence in regards to project activities, including scheduling meetings and note taking
  • Assisting the project managers in regulatory document preparation and submission
  • Interfacing with community partners as needed

The ideal candidate (1) is passionate about the health and wellbeing of Black and other minority communities, (2) has experience overseeing a team, (3) has strong social, rapport building, and oral communication skills, (4) is organized and has prior experience with community-based research, experience within the Philadelphia area is a plus.

The Penn Urban Health Lab is dedicated to designing and testing individual and community level interventions to build healthy neighborhoods. The UHL has a focus in urban nature, blight remediation, violence prevention, and structural racism that has impacted Black and Brown communities. The Opportunity for Health Lab seeks to understand how the American Dream affects health and identifies ways to eliminate health disparities by improving economic opportunities.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with 2-3 years of related experience in research or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

This position is contingent upon funding.
