Assistant Professor, Tenure Stream – Immunology

The Department of Biology at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in the area of immunology. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2022 or shortly thereafter. 

  

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Biology or a related area, and have a minimum of three years post-doctoral experience with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.  

 

We are seeking exceptional candidates who use innovative approaches to study innate or adaptive immunity, including but not limited to host-pathogen interactions and infectious diseases, regulation of immune responses and immune dysfunction, autoimmunity, mucosal immunity, epigenetics of immunity, neuro-immunology, and tumour immunology.  

  

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, research mentorship and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.  

 

Candidates must also demonstrate excellence in teaching. This must be provided through a list of teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials listed below) submitted as part of the application, as well as strong endorsements from referees. The successful candidate is expected to develop and teach undergraduate courses in immunology and contribute to the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will be appointed to the tri-campus graduate Department of Cell and Systems Biology at the University of Toronto.
