Job Description Summary
The Senior Application Director, Wharton Marketing and Communications, will be a member of the Marketing Technology and Web Services group. Reporting to the Web Services IT Director, the Senior Application Developer will have joint responsibility for the development and maintenance of the code base that runs Wharton's WordPress CMS with other members of the Marketing Technology application development team. Development responsibilities include feature upgrades, version releases, bug fixes, normal business hours and occasional off hours application support for products, working closely with external vendors as necessary. Additionally, responsibilities include software architecture design, systems integrations,scoping requirements and developing approved customizations of individual websites. Work with the Marketing Technology team and its business partners to plan road maps. Actively participate in discussions, planning sessions, and solution mapping. Identify new features to existing applications, identify new applications that will streamline operations, and identify areas of improvement.

Job Description

Work closely with the Web Application Architect in coding new front and backend features and mitigate bugs to meet needs of the Marketing Technology team. Responsible for all aspects of the software development life cycle, including requirements gathering, application architecture, application development, testing, project management, and development of customer support and training materials.

Manage the product development Wharton's Wordpress codebase and ecosystem, including web content development within the CMS. Work with the Web Services IT director and various business partners to identify new features to existing applications, new applications or plugins that would streamline operations, and areas of improvement. Plan product road map for accomplishing requests and mitigating bugs. Ensure that deadlines are met.

For larger initiatives, take the lead to coordinate with externally contracted resources to complete project tasks. Responsible for managing the quality of product code contributed by other groups and validating that objectives are being met. Serve as mentor to junior developers within the department and across the school.

Provide normal business hours and off hours application product support. Respond to business partners in a reasonable time frame and provide a high level of support for the products developed and managed. Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with team members, business partners across the school, vendors, and university contacts.

Working closely with the Web Services IT Director, and the Marketing Technology and Web Ops team, define, implement, and maintain application development standards, methods, best practices and workflows. Establish and adhere to best practices for code deployment and testing. Provide common libraries that can be used in other projects.

Act as key contributor in the management of the Wharton web environment; work within the constraints of the hosting provider to ensure development and maintenance of a robust and secure infrastructure. Recommend and aid in modification of the environment as appropriate and necessary.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree and 5 years to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

The successful candidate will be passionate about enterprise-level programming and willing to take the time to stay abreast of new technologies for possible use in future school-wide applications. The candidate will be responsible for providing normal business hours and occasional off hours application support for products. Programming and Technology Skills:

WordPress Core programming, including WordPress REST API v2 and WP Query (required);

Experience with programming REST frameworks necessary (required)

PHP, including versions up to 7.3 (required)

Javascript, and jQuery libraries (required)

CSS, including Sass and LESS preprocessors (required)

Source code management and workflow using tools such as GIT (required) and modman (preferred)

Working knowledge of MySQL, query design and relational database development (preferred)

Familiarity with Apache2 and NGINX server environments (preferred)

Familiarity with writing and automating BASH shell scripts within a Linux Ubuntu server environment (preferred)

Familiarity with Salesforce products, and building integrations using the Salesforce Platform APIs (preferred)

Soft Skills:

Excellent judgment and high energy

Must be able to act consistently with integrity; handle confidential material with complete discretion

Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills (required)

Ability to multi-task and work effectively within tight turnaround schedules (required)
