Job Description Summary
The Assistant Development Officer for Stewardship and Major Gifts reports to the Sr. Director of Development and Alumni Relations. They will develop knowledge base about the educational, research, service goals and priority funding needs of Penn Nursing. They will provide support with identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual major gifts level donor prospects/donors. They also will design and implement coordinated and individualized outreach and engagement strategies for these individuals, respond to inquires on gift opportunities and determine appropriate follow-up. In collaboration with Nursing DAR team, they will conduct discovery visits with alumni, and non-alumni, and work with alumni outreach team to align fund raising with targeted engagement of alumni. They will write briefing documents, funding proposals, and other materials as needed in support of these efforts and will manage their own individual donor prospect/donor portfolio to meet established performance metrics, while maintaining records of their outreach and engagement activity in University databases.

Job Description

The ADO will also inherit into their portfolio long-term friends of Nursing to oversee and steward them as valued members of the Nursing community, with a goal of maintaining and even refreshing their engagement as appropriate. They will work in collaboration with the Sr. Associate Director of Alumni Engagement as needed in this ongoing effort. The ADO should have an entrepreneurial spirt and be innovative, inquisitive, detail-oriented, and embrace DAR's Core Values.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Create strategies to steward existing and long-term donors to ensure they remain valued members of the Nursing community. Collaborate with the Sr. Associate Director of Alumni Engagement as necessary.
  • Conduct individualized stewardship to re-engage donors as appropriate and move them to new solicitations.
  • Manage assigned pool of jr. major gifts prospects, moving these from identification, to cultivation to solicitation.
  • Develop outreach and qualification strategies for a pool of prospects to convey the breadth and depth of philanthropic and other involvement opportunities at Penn Nursing in order to identify new major gift prospects and inform next steps for other major gift officers.
  • Meet with prospects to via phone and video calls and in person to identify interest or connections to Penn Nursing and qualify their ability to make a major gift.
  • For prospects not ready to make a major gift to Penn, work with Annual Gifts Manager to solicit annual gifts and/or the Senior Director to inquire re: their interest in pursing a planned gift for membership to the Harrison Society, Penn's Planned Giving Society, and the Nursing Legacy Circle, Nursing's sister planned giving society.
  • Work with the Senior Director of Development and Alumni to refer other prospects to the Major Gifts team as appropriate.
  • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of Nursing's funding and engagement priorities.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding gift and involvement opportunities and determine appropriate follow-up.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree and 1 - 3 years (Assistant Development Officer A) or 3 - 5 years (Assistant Development Officer B) with experience in development (or related field) or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently, but collaboratively, as part of a goal-oriented team
  • Must be willing to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Entrepreneurial spirt, innovative, inquisitive, detail oriented and self-motivated
