Job Description Summary
The Human Resources Generalist provides high-level HR support to a diverse client base at the School of Arts and Sciences. As a member of the SAS HR team, the HR Generalist assists with HR-related project work and provides policy interpretation and sophisticated problem solving for faculty and staff.

Job Description

The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) forms the foundation of the scholarly excellence that has established Penn as one of the world's leading research universities. We teach students across all 12 Penn schools, and our academic departments span the reach from anthropology and biology to sociology and South Asian studies. The three educational divisions of SAS fulfill different missions, united by the School's broader commitment to providing its students with an unrivaled education in the arts and sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences is the academic home of the majority of Penn undergraduates and provides 60 percent of the courses taken by students in Penn's undergraduate professional schools. The Graduate Division offers doctoral training to over 1,500 candidates in more than 30 graduate programs. And the College of Liberal and Professional Studies provides a range of educational opportunities for lifelong learners and working professionals. SAS Human Resources is one of the administrative offices within the School with broad responsibility for Human Resource-related issues pertaining to more than 700 staff members.

Duties:

As a member of the SAS HR team, assists with HR-related project work and provides policy interpretation and sophisticated problem solving for faculty and staff. Supports all aspects of the staff relations process including case management, mediations, investigations, grievances, and acts as the School's reporting officer for the Title IX office and Office of Affirmative Action. In addition, liaises with the Office of General Counsel and Central HR on complex issues such as separation agreements and PDSTs. Develops and delivers SAS training programs such as new supervisor training, staff development, and compliance training among others. Leads the training and change management efforts for transition to the Workday Performance Management module. Manages the onboarding process for new hires which involves providing onboarding training, ensuring I-9 and other legally mandated regulation compliance, and assisting managers with the introductory review process. Also manages the offboarding process which consists of soliciting and conducting exit interviews with departing staff, and providing exit data reporting and analysis to management. Oversees the annual and ongoing feedback processes, coaches and advises managers on performance management, feedback, and engagement. Provides compensation support to HR Director which includes reviewing additional pay requests and individual service provider classification.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years of HR experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Previous HR experience in

training/OD and employee relations strongly preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy required. Must have demonstrated exceptional customer service skills. Knowledge of HR law strongly preferred. Strong Microsoft Office skills required. Experience with Workday and other HR related systems preferred. SPHR/SHRM-CP certification a plus. Experience in an academic environment a plus.

The salary for this position is expected to be between $45,000 to $65,000.
