Job Description Summary
The peer health navigation/recruitment/retention specialist will function in peer health navigation, recruitment, and retention roles in our Penn Prevention Research Division. The Division is tasked with conducting prevention clinical trials against HIV and other infections. The division performs a high volume of clinical research at a fast pace in an effort to rapidly identify new prevention strategies.

Peer health navigation responsibilities include: working in conjunction with other members of team to provide counseling and support to enable transgender women who are study participants to navigate gender-affirming health care system, referring and linking study participants to clinical, psychosocial, and other support services; providing practical advice about medication-taking cues, clinical visits, options for obtaining comprehensive medical care and treatment, side effect management, and organizational tools.

Recruitment responsibilities include: innovating methods of identifying potentially eligible, interested, and diverse research subjects based on active panel of studies, with particular focus on recruitment of transgender women; communicating accurate protocol related information with identified subjects by telephone or electronic platforms; designing pre-screen instruments for active studies; conducting and documenting prescreens; maintaining database and scheduling systems for study prescreen and screening visits; assist with generation of reports on screening activities; interacting with clinical and data teams regularly to refine and improve processes.

Retention responsibilities include: supporting study participant retention in study through a combination of counseling, goal-setting, tips, therapeutic relationship building, suggestions, and personal strategies; designing and maintaining system for prevention of missing visits; tracking and following up on missed visits in research studies; communicating retention related issues with clinical and data teams regularly to anticipate retention issues, refine and improve processes; assist with generation of retention reports.

Work for this project will be conducted on university campuses, throughout the Philadelphia and surrounding areas and multiple community-based venues where potential study participants may gather. The majority of the work for this project will involve face to face meetings with study participants. Experience working and living within the TRANS feminine community preferred. Those living with HIV are strongly encouraged to apply. Study-specific training will be provided and required.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Determine best practices for successful recruitment of research subjects including working collaboratively to design and conduct community outreach initiatives and screening events in non-traditional outreach settings.

Develop and implement PrEP navigation services that are gender-affirming, informed by research/best practices, and culturally relevant to transgender women who are at risk of HIV.

Schedule, perform, and document prescreen results in appropriate electronic tracking systems.

Schedule screening and clinical research visits; maintain detailed records of contacts with study participants and case collateral related to navigation services.

Provide individual risk assessment and support referrals to ensure study participants can access health care and essential support services.

Provide education on gender affirming procedures, hormone treatment, and risk reduction strategies and ensure linkage to risk reduction supplies.

Maintain an active navigation caseload and proactively engage in evaluation/quality improvement activities in achievement of HPTN trial aims.

Anticipate and communicate retention issues, designing and maintaining system for prevention of missing visits.

Foster regular communication and collaboration with internal study staff and external colleagues performing related work to ensure up-to-date information sharing regarding individual participants.

Qualifications
H.S. Diploma or GED Required, with 1-2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position is contingent upon funding.
