Job Description Summary
The Director of Counseling Services (Counseling Director) within Student Health and Counseling is a senior leader who oversees the provision individual and group psychotherapies for undergraduate, graduate and professional students at the University of Pennsylvania. The Counseling Director reports to the Executive Director for Student Health and Counseling, and joins the clinical services senior leadership team alongside the Medical Director and the Director of Integrated Care Initiatives.

Job Description

The Counseling Director oversees a student-centered approach to clinical counseling and psychological service operations. The Counseling Director manages staff clinicians and supports complex case management; this support may also be offered in collaboration with various student-facing offices within the University that reside outside of the counseling center.

The Counseling Director manages all general counseling and psychological clinical services and procedures offered at the counseling center This includes decision-making regarding allocation of clinical resources, including, but not limited to, the Drop-In Team, and management of the master schedule for Initial Assessments for office-based visits.

The Counseling Director leads a multidisciplinary team of clinical and administrative staff in the delivery of services that incorporate contemporary and innovative models of care, promote collaboration, and assure cultural competency and continual professional development in order to transform the health, well-being and potential of students, with unwavering compassion for those most vulnerable. The Counseling Director provides supervision and oversight of the interface between the administration and clinical staff including the master schedule.

This position, in collaboration with the Executive Director of Student Health and Counseling and other Wellness departments, will ensure that the scope and delivery of mental and behavioral health services provided to undergraduate, graduate and professional students at Penn are aligned with student needs. The Counseling Director will also provide the primary responsibility for managing complex and high-risk clients within Student Health and Counseling and also in partnership with Student Intervention Services (SIS), and other campus partners.

Qualifications:

This position requires a Ph.D. or doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling or a related discipline. In addition, a minimum of five years of relevant experience in a clinical setting is required, preferably in a college counseling center. Must be licensed or license-eligible in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Evidence of successful administrative or program coordination experience is highly desirable. Must be able to perform administrative and clinical duties under pressure. Must have previous supervisory experience. Must be available nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
