SUNY Orange was founded in 1950 as the first county-sponsored community college in the State University of New York system. It has earned its reputation as a pioneer and innovator in meeting the needs of its students and the area it primarily serves. SUNY Orange was the first two-year college in the nation to offer the associate degree nursing program and studies in electron microscopy; and in 1982, the college was the first community college to plan and co-sponsor with local chambers of commerce a business institute.

SUNY Orange has touched the lives of countless numbers of the county's 350,000 residents through its credit programs, non-credit programming and cultural events. Job Description:
The Director, Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) will provide vision, leadership and direction for programs and activities sponsored by the CTL. By offering an environment that promotes exploration and experimentation, the CTL serves as a resource center for faculty and staff to support excellence in teaching and learning, pedagogical best practices, innovative technologies, and campus collaborations that enhance the student experience. The Director collaborates with faculty and staff from academic affairs, student services and human resources to develop and deliver professional development programming on a variety of topics that serve the diverse needs of today's learner. The position reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Learning & Student Success, or designee, and is a member of the Academic Affairs Leadership Team. Travel between campuses and instructional sites may be required as programming dictates.

Requirements:
Education Required: Master's Degree from an accredited college/university.
Experience Required: Minimum five years of full- or part-time teaching experience at the community college level; demonstrated knowledge of academic trends and learner-based pedagogies that impact student learning; demonstrated competency of using and advancing appropriate technology to support teaching and learning; experience with multi-media development and the integration of technology into the learning process; evidence of the ability to design and effectively conduct faculty and staff development programs face-to-face and online; strong project management, technical, and communication skills; budget management experience; demonstrated knowledge of best practices in assessment, and knowledge of and experience with learning management systems used in higher education.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, all college employees and the public.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Must be able to travel between the college's two campuses and other sites.
  • Bilingual Skills.
