DEAN, COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) seeks an innovative and experienced leader who can advance the College of Business with strong academic programs, faculty growth and development, a focus on student achievement, enrollment growth, strong connections to the business community, and a focus on military educational access. The Dean must have a deep sense of connection to the international learning community, which is a fundamental characteristic of HPU.
Founded in 1965, HPU is Hawai‘i's largest private university with its core campus in the heart of Honolulu's business district. HPU is a private, not-for-profit institution of approximately 4,700 students with 3,800 undergraduate and 900 graduate students. The College of Business has approximately 500 students with 400 undergraduates and 100 graduate students. HPU is one of the most diverse campuses in the country.
The HPU College of Business has multiple paths to successful careers in business. The College provides students with flexibility in exploring different areas of business while acquiring real-world skills that are directly applicable to whatever path students choose. HPU became the first university in the world to partner with Coursera’s Career Academy and provide undergraduate and graduate level access to Career Academy certificates complementing business students’ degree programs of choice.
The Dean of Business joins the campus leadership in advancing the vision and mission of HPU. HPU emphasizes a highly personalized, student-centered approach offering applied, experiential and innovative educational programs that prepare students to make a positive impact in their workplaces and communities. The Dean of Business will join experienced HPU leadership led by President John Gotanda and Provost Jennifer Walsh.
Some of the expected qualifications for the next Dean include:
- At least five years of management or administrative experience at leadership positions;
- Must have examples of a deep understanding and appreciation of Hawai‘i’s culture and the ability to adapt to that culture;
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a very diverse student body and staff;
- Evidence of collaboration with faculty in a transparent leadership style; and
- MBA or other advanced degree from an accredited institution. PhD degree from an accredited institution preferred.
