Job Description Summary
The Director of Rowing Operations oversees the facility maintenance and operations of the Boathouse, Ted Nash Land Rowing Center, all crew related equipment repair, maintenance and replacement, which includes shells, oars, launches, ergometers, trucks, boat trailers, and all other relevant equipment. As Building Administrator of the crew facilities, they will coordinate with FRES Area Manager and contracted vendors for all building related repairs, maintenance, and operations.

The Director of Rowing Operations reports to and receives general direction from Assistant Athletic Director, Facilities and receives direction related to rowing program equipment, launches, shells, rigging, travel, regatta operations from Penn Rowing head coaches. They will also work with the Finance Office on all purchases and financial transactions related to the Penn Rowing programs and their equipment.

The successful candidate will coordinate with rowing programs the operational needs of home and away regattas and will be point of contact for visiting teams during home regattas. In addition, they will assist with away competition logistics to include, housing, meals, and team transportation, transport equipment to away competitions, be present at all Penn races on the Schuylkill River, and attend rowing program practices.

The Director will support Business Development in planning and preparation for rental events in rowing facilities.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Boathouse maintenance, Building Administrator (BA) - Create and follow a schedule for upkeep of the Boathouse and Nash Land Rowing Center. Coordinate with facilities and housekeeping on all needed repairs, improvements, and maintenance. Monitor all physical aspects of the boathouse docks, boat bays, storage facilities, workshop, etc. Ability to perform and facilitate repairs when needed.
  • Equipment maintenance - Ensure that all boat shells, oars, rigging, launches, vehicles, trailers, ergs, and bikes are in proper working condition. Develop a repair/replacement plan and full inventory of all hard equipment. Perform and/or facilitate equipment maintenance when required.
  • Equipment ordering - Work with Penn Rowing coaching staff, sport administrator and Finance Office to purchase all needed equipment for the Penn Rowing facilities and programs. Effectively manage equipment budgets including purchase and sale of rowing equipment.
  • Rowing Operations - Coordinate with coaches of Penn Rowing programs (Heavyweight Men, Lightweight Men, and Women) regarding team needs. Travel to away competitions with Penn Rowing. Attend all home practices and prepare all trucks, trailers, and boats for away team travel. Be present at all home practices, events, and races. Provide logistical and operations support while at away regattas.
  • Liaison to Rental Groups - Work with DRIA Business Development as necessary in planning and preparation for rental events in the Burk-Bergman Boathouse and Nash Land Rowing Center.
  • Management/supervision - Effectively manage work-study students and any volunteer/part-time employees.


Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree and 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
