Reporting to the IT Senior Manager for Technology Services Platforms & Network Engineering, the IT Architect performs complex and varied technical work. Develops solutions to resolve complex technical issues. Creates infrastructure configuration code, designs, documentation, and presentations. Translates business requirements into process designs. Defines standards, methods, and best practices. Reviews, evaluates, and implements proof of concept products and services. Supports incident response and change management processes for existing solutions. Viewed internally and externally as a technical expert and critical resource. May provide technical direction to others. Works with vendors or other external providers. Provides leadership for architecture design and product evaluation and technical oversight in equipment evaluations and recommendations of new products. Maintains expert level knowledge of technologies for application to the enterprise; benchmarks across industry. May lead special projects, including enterprise-wide projects. May represent organization on university technical committees.

Job Description

ISC Technology Services Engineering is seeking an IT Architect to join our team. This will be a hands-on role with responsibilities including:
  • Creating infrastructure designs, documentation, and presentations
  • Reviewing, evaluating, and implementing proof of concept products and services
  • Building cloud workspaces and resources using tools such as Python SDKs, HashiCorp Terraform, or AWS CloudFormation
  • Deploying systems to AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Building and maintaining user interfaces using AWS Amplify with React
  • Developing serverless functions using Lambda / Python
  • Configuring and querying Amazon Athena, Google BigQuery, and related tools
  • Troubleshooting issues with containerized applications running in cloud services such as AWS Fargate, Kubernetes, or Red Hat OpenShift
  • Developing CI/CD jobs and pipelines
  • Supporting Enterprise Jenkins development, test, and production environments
  • Scheduling, coordinating, and applying changes to cloud infrastructure
  • Advocating for AWS, Azure, and GCP best practices
  • Consulting within ISC and across the Penn community and developing cloud-based technology solutions


Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering with 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Candidates should possess experience:
  • Designing, implementing, and supporting applications and infrastructure in AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Managing infrastructure as code using AWS CloudFormation or HashiCorp Terraform at scale to support a multi-account strategy
  • Configuring virtual networks in AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Managing Linux hosts with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet and authoring the configuration templates
  • Migrating legacy monolithic architecture to a microservices architecture
  • Building, deploying, and testing Docker containers
  • Using distributed source control tools such as Git
  • Working with transport layer security (TLS) and x509 certificates

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
