Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Division of Hematology in the Department of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of Hemoglobinopathies including sickle cell disease and thalassemias, with a specific focus on basic erythropoiesis with specific focus on fetal hemoglobin induction therapies and novel therapeutic approaches to the hemog;lobinopathies. Applicants must have an M.D. (or equivalent) or M.D.(or equivalent)/Ph.D. degree. Must be board-certified in pediatric hematology/oncology or board-eligible and within five years of completing fellowship.

Teaching responsibilities may include teaching medical students, pediatric residents and pediatric hematology/oncology fellows, as well as PhD students and post-doctoral fellows.

Clinical responsibilities may include inpatient and outpatient service in pediatric hematology. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will also be capable of clinical participation in the hematologic guidance of care of patients with sickle cell disease and thalassemia including curative therapies for these disorders.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include hemoglobinopathies including sickle cell disease and thalassemias, with a specific focus on basic erythropoiesis with specific focus on fetal hemoglobin induction therapies and novel therapeutic approaches to the hemoglobinopathies. A successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to publish and obtain grant support in these areas.
