The individual will also participate in Reference, Chat, the Critical Writing Program, and other shared responsibilities. This is an exciting time to join Penn Libraries in this capacity as the University has announced major investments to advance Penn's pathbreaking scientific contributions to innovative and impactful areas of medicine, public health, science, and technology.

Liaise with the School of Engineering and Applied Science, providing reference, instruction and identifying gaps to determine new services in support of faculty and student research. Collaborate with Penn Libraries colleagues on provision of wider research support for emerging areas of interest in computer science and engineering such as data & algorithm ethics training, code reproducibility and software citation. Collaborate in collection development for engineering and computer science including identifying data sets for acquisition of interest to SEAS; consult on tools for analyzing such data sets; investigate means of storage and searchability of acquired datasets. Develop and provide relevant training workshops and documentation. End user support for citation management tools (Endnote, Zotero, Mendeley, etc.), Overleaf, and LaTeX Collaborate with Penn Libraries colleagues on provision of wider research support services to interdisciplinary research centers and further build out library support infrastructure for engineering and science research on campus. Builds knowledge in current and emerging trends in scholarly communications, including impact measurement and visualization, open educational resources (OER), and open science. Participates in the general Penn Libraries research consultation and Chat Reference Services. Investigates new technologies and resources to effectively respond to changing information needs Pursues collaborative opportunities with other Libraries and University departments Participates in Libraries, University and professional activities as appropriate Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree from an ALA-accredited information and library science program, data science, computer science or equivalent. Demonstrated familiarity with the research life cycle in engineering and/or computer science. Demonstrated interest in STEM Librarianship Ability to work successfully in a team environment dedicated to providing excellent customer service. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and to manage projects. Commitment to anti-racist, inclusive, ethical praxis. Willingness to learn and a desire for professional growth. Interest in new technologies and innovation

Preferred: Academic background in engineering, computer and/or data science or related experience in an academic science library Experience as a Carpentries instructor -or willingness to become one. Knowledge of current trends and practices in scientific scholarly communication. Demonstrated knowledge in a programming language (R, Python, etc.). Working knowledge of APIs, web scraping.
