Reporting to the Systems and Metadata Librarian in Resource Management and Access Services, the Temporary Metadata Clerk will copy catalog English, French, and German materials in accordance with established standards and institutional policy. Additionally, the incumbent will perform routine catalog maintenance and resource processing.

Job Description

Responsibilities Include:

In accordance with cataloging standards/rules and local practice, perform routine copy cataloging.

Perform routine and advanced searches of Biddle and Penn Libraries catalogs (Search CENTER, WMS, Franklin), external bibliographic utilities (e.g. OCLC, peer institution catalogs), and online marketplaces/publisher websites (e.g. Amazon, GOBI, Harrassowitz) for bibliographic information.

Process physical inventory, including unboxing materials (with occasional lifting of boxes), barcoding of library items, and transporting book trucks through Biddle Law Library spaces.

Assist in routine collection maintenance (e.g. withdrawing and transferring materials).

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong computer skills in a Windows computing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree.

    Preferred:
  • Experience with library work, preferably in cataloging monographs.
  • Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification System.
