Job Description Summary
Reporting to Penn Live Arts' Associate Director of Production and Facilities, the Theater Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, operation, dismantling and removing of all equipment (e.g. sound, lighting, video, special effects, scenery, props, rigging, meeting materials etc.) required for the presentation of performances and special events occurring at and managed by Penn Live Arts and its staff. The technician is also called upon to function in the role of Stage Manager for both internal and external events.
The technician is also routinely called upon to function in the role of Event Supervisor, during which time the technician becomes the Penn Live Arts' liaison with the presenting organization, both internal and external. In this role the technician becomes the PLA's representative, administering PLA and Penn polices & procedures as well as safety and quality control standards while functioning in a key customer service position.
The position may involve direct supervision of student performing groups in an event rehearsal/production and safety management capacity. In addition, it requires the routine maintenance of theatrical and associated shop equipment.
Based on individual qualifications and specialties, the technician may be called upon to oversee, on a semi-permanent basis, certain areas within the Technical Department (i.e. Electrics Supervisor, Scene Shop Supervisor, Audio Supervisor etc.). The duties for these areas would be concentrated on maintenance of equipment, inventories and supplies.
This position requires basic, functional knowledge (or the aptitude to learn) in the following areas; Programming, troubleshooting and operation of QLab Audio and Video; programming and operation of ETC Eos lighting consoles; set up, troubleshooting, and operation of audio systems with digital and analog consoles; set up, troubleshooting, and operation of digital video projections; set up, troubleshooting, and operation of digital video cameras; stage electrics - conventional and LED fixtures; and basic stagecraft and theatrical rigging.
This a 10 month Limited Service position that requires the theater technician's presence at all periods of production/event from load in, rehearsal, performance and strike.
Job Description

3) Dismantle and remove all equipment required for performances and special events managed by PLA in its own and other venues.

5) Conduct routine maintenance of theatrical and associated shop equipment.
6) Function as Stage Manager for performances and special events managed by PLA in its own and other venues (runs concurrently with 1, 2 & 3).
7) Other duties as assigned.
