Job Description

The Penn Center for Community Health Workers (PCCHW) is a nationally-recognized hub for Community Health Worker (CHW) research, patient care, and dissemination. The Center's mission is to improve health equity through effective community health worker programs. CHWs, hired from within local communities, provide social support, advocacy, and navigation to patients from marginalized communities. The IMPaCT CHW model has served over 15,000 people in Philadelphia and has been proven to improve primary care access, chronic disease management, and mental health for patients while reducing hospital days by 65%. PCCHW is currently working with more than 50 organizations across 20 states to help them launch and sustain effective CHW programs.

The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will report to the Research Project Manager and provide strategic support for clinical operation of the IMPaCT model at Penn Medicine, ongoing research and evaluation studies assessing innovation and implementation of the model in multiple settings, and technical assistance work with CHW programs across the country. Clinical operation support will include supervising a team of 3-4 research assistants who identify and enroll patients meeting psychosocial and medical risk criteria to receive IMPaCT as part of their routine care, coordinating ongoing data-driven quality improvement (QI) initiatives within the Penn Center for CHWs using both qualitative and quantitative methods, and ongoing data analysis and reporting, including maintaining project databases and preparing routine reports of outcomes to inform strategic decisions and ensure provision of quality care. Research and evaluation responsibilities will include contributing to design and implementation of study protocols, patient enrollment and data collection, maintenance of study manuals and databases, data cleaning and analysis, and communication and reporting to funding agencies, preparation and submission of regulatory documentation to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and supporting dissemination of results through peer-reviewed publications, presentations at scientific meetings, and public-facing reports. The CRC will also support the Research Project Manager and other PCCHW staff in providing technical assistance related to data infrastructure and program evaluation to PCCHW's external partners.

In addition to the above, a Clinical Research Coordinator - C (CRC-C) will have demonstrated several years of research experience in health equity interventions and program evaluation, and is expected to provide additional involvement in study design and analysis, additional support on evaluation strategies for partner organizations, and lead integration with clinical partners.

Qualifications

  • CRC-B: Bachelor's degree with 2-4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • CRC-C: Bachelor's degree with 4-6 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Experience managing research and/or evaluation projects, including experience developing and using data collection instruments, managing project databases, and conducting data analyses
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly the ability to explain topics and concepts in an easy-to-understand, accessible manner both verbally and in writing
  • Experience fostering successful teamwork, both through training and supervising staff and facilitating operations within and across diverse teams
  • Excellent organizational skills, including problem-solving abilities and detail-orientation
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic organization, where flexibility, collaboration, and creative thinking are strongly valued
  • Able to interact effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including investigators, clinical partners, and patients
  • Very familiar with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Interest in and experience with health equity research and interventions


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree in public health, social work, or other related field
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Experience gained in a clinical environment, and working knowledge of health and research data systems (REDCap, electronic health records)
  • Experience with quantitative analysis software (STATA, SPSS, or SAS) and qualitative analysis software (nVivo, ATLAS.ti, etc.)
